Are you or someone you care for at risk for type 2 diabetes?

Let’s take this time to check on our health! Many don’t know, yet about 1 in 3 Americans have prediabetes. This insight can be used to help your friends, family, and those around you learn if they are at risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes (T2D). If you have prediabetes, there are steps you can take to prevent or delay the onset of diabetes. The first step is knowing if you are at risk and being aware of the resources that can help you achieve your health goals.

Who is at risk of type 2 diabetes?

  • • If you are overweight.
    • If you are 45 years of age or older.
    • If your parent or sibling has type 2 diabetes.
    • If you are physically active fewer than 3 times per week.
    • If you ever gave birth to a baby that weighed more than 9 pounds.
    • If you ever had diabetes while pregnant (gestational diabetes).
    Know where you stand and take this online 1 minute test to see if you are at risk of type 2 diabetes.

What can be done to prevent Type 2 diabetes?

It begins with your lifestyle and lifestyle management. Taking steps to lose weight if you are overweight and increasing your physical activity, even by a little, gets you closer to lowering your risk of type 2 diabetes. This may seem overwhelming. Taking part in a lifestyle change program can help you meet your lifestyle goals. Research has shown that through lifestyle change programs, you can lower your risk of developing type 2 diabetes by as much as 58% (71% if over age 60). The program will give you access to coaches and resources. They will work with you to set your own personal achievable goals! You will feel confident in making healthier choices that you can carry-on for a lifetime. You are not alone on this journey, and there will be a support system along the way.
